I was listening to NPR radio around New Year's Day and one of the stories was about a guy who made a resolution last year to send out a hand-written thank you note every day for a whole year. They were
not long, but simply a couple of lines, which were always appreciated by their recipients. One day he wrote one to the guy at Starbuck's who calls him by name every morning when he goes in and knows exactly what he always wants to order. He realized that sometimes it is just the little things like that which can make your day.
My goal is not so grandiose, just one or two thank you notes each week for 2011. I am pretty good at recognizing my blessings, but I figure I can use some improvement in expressing that gratitude in writing. After all, who doesn't like to open the mail box and fine a note of thanks from someone unexpected? How many times do we see people behind the scenes, quietly serving others, not asking for or expecting praise, just doing what needs to be done? I hope I can bring some small amount of joy this coming year as I strive to keep my goal. So keep looking in your mail box, who knows what you might find?
A Very nice idea!
